About

Sojourner is the blanket name given to the people with the ability to leave their native planet and travel to any of the habitable worlds within the Aetherium. Many people believe that doing so is an offense against the gods and to leave your world is a grave sin. It’s believed that sojourners are cursed. In some cases, if it’s learned that you’re from another world, that you arrived there via the Way, it could lead to your violent and untimely demise.

There are only two known cases of outsiders to safely survive on a planet they don’t belong on. The first is the vaen who left Tanviyer to resettle on Keverynn. The second, oddly, is the people who came to Keverynn from Atharia. Some argue that the second case can largely be dismissed since the humans of Atharia originated from Keverynn in the first place and one could further argue that they were returning to their ancestral home world.

The Fragments themselves don’t particularly mind the Sojourners as they have far too much going on to bother with a small handful of mortals wandering ‘out of bounds’. Their disinterest in this matter encourages their divine offspring to look the other way, so to speak.

Human Sojourners are the most common as there’s more human life in the Aetherium. Non-humans--such as lunyari and wolflings--would have some difficulty but could manage if they’re careful. The same goes for human-siathi hybrids as they often don’t have wings. A vaen could manage if properly disguised.
Naga, shai’then, kairyll, and chume’taly would have a great deal of difficulty blending in.
It requires intellect to access the Way. As such, animals can’t pass through. Creatures such as the dragons, wyvern, and naerwolves of Keverynn, and the jyelyar of Melphor are intelligent to understand and pass through the Way.
It should be noted, however, that the vast majority of these wouldn’t do so on their own. Dragons are generally uninterested and wyvern are above such things. Naerwolves and jyelyar don’t go anywhere without their riders.
Animals with abnormal intellect--such as Toef--could independently make the journey.
