Kairyll
Statistics
Territory of origin: Kaishivan
Current territory: Keltos
General Appearance
There are three separate subspecies of kairyll present on Melphor at this date. The others were all exterminated during the War of the Roses. Kairyll are facultative quadrupeds, meaning that while they are normally bipedal they are capable of going on all four legs. They tend to be quicker on all fours. As they have wings, they are also capable of flight.
Their blood is a very dark crimson, almost black.
Kairyyl don't perspire the way humanoids do.
While the different types of kairyyl look drastically different from each other, they all have things in common.
- digitigrade legs
- four digits on all limbs
- two toned wings
- clawed wing hands
- claws
- slitted eyes
- horns
Known subtypes
Havsor
Felnas
Dracar
Karshe
Nognan
Reproduction
Depending on the subtype, kairyll can produce anywhere from 2-8 offspring at a time. Felnas and Karshe reproduce very much like feline and canine animals do, while the dracar are egg layers.
Dracar typically engage in mating dances on the ground rather than the aerial displays favored by the felinas or the displays of strength and cunning used by the Karshe.
Felnas gestation is a period of four months, farshe have a six month period and the Draconars are the longest at eight months. A felnas and farshe female will produce up to three offspring while a Draconar female will only lay one egg at a time.
Beliefs
The kairyll have their own set of deities, but freely include the deities of the other species of Melphor into their shrines. The kairyll deities are only worshipped by the kairyll and are largely ignored by the people of Melphor, most notably the ones living on the continent of Ardren. Those of Keltos acknowledge these deities and include them into their calendars.
Special abilities
All Kairyll can fly. Beyond that, they don’t really have much in the way of racial abilities.
Hierarchy
The kairyll have a clan structure to their culture. All clan leaders within each subtype are listened to and respected, but a Felinas won’t follow the instructions of a Draconar clan leader unless instructed by the leader of his or her home clan. The same follows true of each sub type.
Kairyyl in general and felnas in particular have excellent night vision, but it's really only effective if there's some source of faint light.
Language
Kairyll mostly speak their own language, but the vast majority also speak the common tongue of Keltos.
Culture
Kairyyl will eat with their families when they’re young, but as they mature they tend to prefer to eat alone. The karshe eat with their extended family unit.
Kairyll things are made with stone and leather to withstand being damaged by their claws. This is especially true in regards to the draconar subtype.
Kairyyl mages have no stomach for carnage
The kairyyl are reputed to be hot headed and some claim that they are capable of holding grudges for many years. Long association with the lunyari has tempered that somewhat, but they are still quite temperamental.
