== Anatomy == 
Generally dog sized with scaled skin. It has wings but they aren't flight capable. They're quadrupeds with a thin tail, narrow muzzle, and forward facing eyes.

== Biological Traits == 
Heights range between 24-26 inches (male) and 22-24 inches (female).<br>
Weight ranges around 65-90 pounds for a male and 50-70 pounds for a female.<br>

== Genetics and Reproduction == 
There are only three primary kinds of lellsie. Each one is named for their initial country of discovery though they can be found all over Feralia. Types can breed with each other, creating mixed breeds but those mixes generally don't last long and eventually wind up merging back into one of the main types.<br>
 
The most common are the Ciheian Longtails. The Becinian Padfoot and the Thauland Sprinters aren't quite so numerous.
 
Males engage in lekking to attract a mate. One a female selects her mate, the two raise their brood together until the young leave the nest. Sometimes the two will continue to mate but it's not unheard of for them to part ways after that.<br>
 
Females come into season twice a year - in spring and in the fall and lasts 9-12 days. They have a gestation period of roughly 20 days before they lay a small clutch of eggs. They can lay 2-6 eggs. Incubation is a shared duty between both parents and begins immediately after the eggs are laid. While one parent nest sits the other hunts for food. If the process is uninterrupted, the young will emerge 30-40 days later, depending on the clutch size.<br>

== Growth Rate & Stages == 
After emerging from their eggs, lellsie are blind and their stubby wings have no feathers. Each of the three types is born with an egg tooth at the end of their snout. They have some scales but these are soft and don't afford much protection. They can navigate by smell.<br>
A few days after emerging, their eyes open and their scales harden, offering some protection from predators. They can't see very well yet. By this time, their egg tooth has fallen off.<br>
By the end of their first week, small feathers have begun to develop on their wings. Longtails and Padfoots develop their tufts around this time as well. Their vision has improved enough to make their way around the nest area. They've now doubled in size.<br>
After their second week of life has passed their beginning to learn how to hunt, roughhousing with their nestmates and parents, and attempting to kill small insects and rodents that come near the nest. They're a third of their adult size.<br>
By the end of their first month they're hunting with their parents. They aren't quite fully grown yet, but they've developed full wings and a proper set of scales by this time.<br>
Sometime between the end of their first and second month, the young lellsie go on independent hunts. After a few successful kills, they begin to leave the nest in search of their own place to live. Males tend to relocate farther away from their parents than the females.<br>

== Ecology and Habitats == 
They prefer to make their nests in deserted dwellings, though they've been known to live in caves.<br>
 
Nests are made from whatever material is at hand. When such materials are available, they seek out plant matter from plants with parasite-reducing toxins to improve chick survival. Many parents line their nests with feathers, sometimes using their own shed feathers when no others can be scavenged.<br>

== Dietary Needs and Habits == 
They stalk their prey, which includes a variety of small creatures. It attacks with dizzying blows, paralyzing toxins and noxious fumes.<br>
They like to eat squirrels, birds, rabbits, and have been known to kill and eat ferali on occasion. They require a protein rich diet but they're capable of supplementing their diet with plant matter when necessary.<br>
Young lellsie need to eat at least 3 times a day to meet the needs of their developing bodies. Adults can make do with one meal a day but ideally they'd eat twice a day if they can.<br>

== Geographic Origin and Distribution == 
They can be found all over Feralia but aren't common in [[Effervuansland]] as the climate gets too cold for their liking. Only the Ciheian Longtails are found there.<br>
