This is the only way to achieve this rank.
Air
Falcon
To obtain the Master Path version of this rank, a young girl needs to demonstrate the ability the ability to create 'wings', thus signifying the ability to 'fly'. It isn't really flying; more like gliding on wind currents or floating. Her duty is to create amulets of protection. These may be given to Sisters that are going out wandering or sold to raise money. Fire
Stoneburner
Their powers deal with the forging of weapons. Even without a Cloudrunner's enchantment the blades hold a little magic of their own. Their name has a duel meaning: a reference to the glowing of the forge and the ability to, literally, burn stone. Many Stoneburners stay in this rank despite having achieved the power and ability to progress upward to become Firedancers. They simply don't feel the urge towards combat or doing anything more than creating. There's nothing wrong with it and it is an honourable occupation.
Starblade
It's possible, on Mater's Path, to go from apprentice to Starblade, as many Stoneburners stay there. Those who hold this rank use the distinctive weapon of the same name rather than the more traditional kaneth utilized by the rest of the Sisterhood. They are, of course, trained to use both weapons but those who achieve this rank are the only ones who are permitted to use and carry this weapon. Even after promotion to the rank of Firedancer they may continue to use it if they wish.
Firedancer
These Starblades have proven themselves worthy of promotion.
Water
Wavedancer
They have an aversion to bright light. They use an object to focus their power. They rarely leave the confines of the Sisterhood and avoid outsiders until they have better control over their abilities.
Chanter
These Wavedancers have gained enough control over their volatile magic to rise up in rank. They take it upon themselves to care for all the children in the Sisterhood, sharing this duty with the of their counterparts on the Path of the Sorceress and the Quicksilvers.
Singer
These are Chanters who have progressed in their power enough to achieve the highest rank on their Path. Their powers tend to be linked to their emotions.
