There are some laws about magic, but they largely exist to protect people from charlatans and regulate what can and can't be sold, as some spell ingredients are dangerous and illegal. While it is possible to kill someone with magic, it is taboo.That said, it is difficult to prove and many such cases go unsolved due to the lack of individuals with the skill to do so.

==Healthcare==
There is some magic that can speed up the healing process and diagnose illness more effectively than most doctors. It is, however, quite rare. The most common healing magics are those individuals who are skilled at cultivating and enhancing medicinal plants to make medicine.

==Warfare==
People with magic try to avoid getting involved with conflicts, but sometimes it can't be helped. The Chosen Warriors often get pulled in to such conflicts as their Chief Priest/Priestess goes to try for a peaceful resolution. The Warriors are there in the event that these efforts fail. The only Thaumaturges who become involved in the fighting are Chosen Warriors, priests, or healers. 

Sometimes, bad people learn magic for personal gain. 

Soldiers might have tried to become Thaumaturges, but failed. They are likely to use what they know on the battlefield to help their side win. 

Magic on the battlefield is permitted, as magic is as much a tool as any weapon the soldiers carry. Ideally, it would only be used for protection and enhancement, but battlefields aren't ideal places.
